The Micro-Nikkor 55mm 3.5 Auto lens possesses shockingly fine sharp glass. Microcontrast is amazing and at least on my 1970s copy, the focus is easy and smooth. Just goes to show how much engineering effort Nikon truly put into their old lenses in order to compete with European glass like Zeiss and co.
While this lens was designed for close focus, it will do an admirable job of mid-ranges. From that point, there is no advantage to the sharp glass. That said, I would gladly have this single lens on the camera all day. Not only is it superbly engineered, but it is durable and just does the job every single time.
